Thies region on Wednesday won the national U17 and U20 youth championships.
Thies U20 beat their Ziguinchor counterparts after the penalty shootout in a match played at Lamine Gueye stadium. The teams had a goalless draw after regular time.
In the first match, Thies U17 defeated Kaolack 2-1 and grabbed the sixth edition of the national youth championship .
Thies U17 opened the scoring in the 13th by Khadim Ndiaye before Kaolack’s Arfang Bop equalized at the 36th.
Cheikh T Diom gave the advantage to Thies at the 57th, with the last goal of the match.
Hence thies has pocketed one million FCFA for U17 and one million CFA francs for U20. As for the other two unfortunate finalists, they each received seven hundred and fifty thousand CFA francs.
Those two youth football finals played at the Lamine Gueye stadium in Kaolack have met the expectations of football fans who massively came to attend the event. The level of the game was high, and the organization was perfect; which conforted Kaolack Governor Alioune Badara Mbengue when announcing the closing of this national football event.
