Senegal U 20 national squad reach the semi final of the ongoing African Youth Championship after their 2-0 win over Ghana on Wednesday at the Maradi Municipal Stadium.
Senegal secured the victory in the first half with two goals of Youssouf Badji at the 11th and 44th minute. With this qualification for the semifinal, coach Youssoupha Dabo boys also qualified for the next World Cup, which is very satisfactory according to the President of the Senegalese Football Federation Maitre Augustin Senghor.
« I think that a double objective has been achieved before the end of the tournament, that is to say to qualify for the semifinals and especially validate our participation to a World Cup for the third time » said President Senghor.
The head of the football leading body in Senegal believes, the qualification is important for the development of small categories and it confirms the huge progress that Senegalese football has made in recent years.
President Senghor invites the players to remain humble and focused for the rest of the competition so as to achieve the next goal which is to reach the final try to win the trophy.
He confirmed his confidence in the capability of players to get to the top, urging them to perform well in their last group match on Saturday ,even if they have already qualified for the semi final.
In the other group match of the day, Burkina Faso lost to Mali by 0-1 and is eliminated from the competition.
For the last day of group B billed for Saturday, Senegal will challenge Burkina Faso, while Mali will lock horns with Ghana
